Alderaan (Copy)
Alderaan is a duel-faction planet and the largest in the entire game, so the biggest challenge in creating the planet was adding variety without going over the memory budget.
The Republic side is lush and green with colorful flowers.
The Imperial side has dead grass and decaying foliage.
In the context of the story, Alderaan is a planet undergoing a civil war, between House Organa (Leia’s ancestors) and House Thul. We wanted to differentiate the two sides to diversify the player’s experience while also aiding the story.
At the center of Alderaan, there is a severed bridge–a reminder of what once connected the planet in harmony and peace.
The lighting and fog colors accentuate the scale of the planet, while also blurring the lines between the hand painted skybox and the in-game explorable space.
Interiors required clever lighting differences to maximize storytelling without creating entirely new assets.
Our team utilized distinct color palettes to guide the player, build atmosphere, and delineate space.
